Where is the black Democrat telling Colin Kaepernick to shut up?

184139_6001
The whole Kaepernick anthem affair confirms two things:
1) He is no longer making headlines by throwing TD’s; and worse,
2) He does not have a clue of what repression really is.
My friend Humberto Fontova told me about Kaepernick holding a press conference wearing a T-shirt with a picture of Fidel Castro. It explained everything that I needed to know about this clown named CK who can’t play QB anymore.
Furthermore, it also proved that Kaepernick does not even understand what is going on in U.S. cities, especially as it relates to the minorities that he is suddenly so worried about. Maybe he should get out of his mansion and spend a few days living in the inner city.
Blacks are killed by police at a lower rate than their threat to officers would predict. To cite more data on this point: in 2013, blacks made up 42 percent of all cop killers whose race was known, even though blacks are only about 13 percent of the nation’s population.
Less than one-third of all homicides by police involve black victims. Moreover, there is a huge, unacknowledged measure of support for the police in the inner city: “They’re due respect because they put their lives every day on the line to protect and serve. I hope they don’t back off from policing,” a woman told me on the Staten Island street where Eric Garner was killed. (This was two nights before Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were assassinated in Brooklyn.)
It ain’t happening, Colin. You are reading our society’s problems as poorly as you do the defenses intercepting your passes or the receivers that you are constantly overthrowing!
Here is the worst part: His message of black victimology was unchallenged. No one in the Congressional Black Caucus stood up and called Collin out.    No one in the Democrat Party defended the police from the outrageous lies that Kaepernick said.
In the meantime, Chicago has recorded 487 homicides and more than 2,800 people shot so far this year. My guess is that the people in those communities are happy to see “the blue team”!
At the end of the day, who cares whether Kaepernick salutes the national anthem. Let him sit down! However, he has no right to attack the integrity of our police officers or pretend to be enlightened by wearing a Fidel Castro T-shirt!

What is the Clinton Foundation doing in Colombia?

Our friend Fausta Rodriguez Wertz has been on this story for a week.
It begs the question: What was The Clinton Foundation looking for in Colombia?
Here is a bit of the very complicated story
Fondo Acceso was founded in 2010 by Bill Clinton, the Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, and the Canadian mining magnate Frank Giustra. The Clinton Foundation and the SLIM Foundation committed $10 million each to the fund.
The Clinton Foundation is a 50 percent shareholder in the company, according to its tax records. Numerous Clinton Foundation and Clinton-Giustra Enterprise Partnership officials are listed as Fondo Acceso directors in Colombian corporate filings.
The fund has reportedly distributed $1.5 million to Alimentos SAS, a fruit-pulping company, and $250,000 to the telecommunications firm Fontel SA in exchange for shareholding agreements. The Clinton Foundation and CGEP have declined to release a full list of Fondo Acceso’s investments.
What exactly is the point of having President Clinton in business in Colombia with a Mexican telecommunications billionaire and a Canadian mining magnate? Why all the secrecy? Why was the website takend down?
I have a few other questions:
1) Did they do this to avoid regulations in Colombia or the U.S.? Or to create a fund to go around U.S. oversight or campaign laws?
2) Why didn’t President Clinton create the fund to boost business in the U.S.? For example, how about a fund to invest in our inner cities? Why promote investment in other places when our cities are desperately lacking in jobs?
3) Did Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have any role in this?
According to Fausta, Hillary Clinton’s timeline is interesting — or maybe Clintonian:
2008: Hillary Clinton campaigns for president, is against the Colombia Free Trade Agreement.
2009: Hillary Clinton becomes Secretary of State. She starts lobbying members of Congress for approval of the CFTA, as revealed on emails released on February 2016.
2010: Bill Clinton, Carlos Slim, and Frank Giustra (who pledged $100 million to the Foundation) open Fondo Acceso. Previously, in June 2005, Gold Service International, a South American business group, paid Bill Clinton $800,000 to deliver four speeches in South America. Gold Service was pushing for the free trade agreement, which would help boost Colombian exports to the United States, and Clinton was supportive of the policy.
The Clinton apologists will say that this is all coincidence, as they always do. My answer to the Clinton apologists is to remind them of Ian Fleming’s line about coincidence:
“Once is happenstance.
Twice is coincidence.
Three times is enemy action”
Finally, am I the only one who finds Mrs. Clinton’s change of heart about the Colombia Free Trade Agreement just a bit too cute?
This is especially relevant because she was for the Trans Pacific Partnership until she was against it. Can we believe anything that this woman says? Will she flip as President Clinton to take care of some donation that someone gave to the Clinton Foundation?

The NAACP is about teachers’ unions, not black children

The NAACP made a big decision this week. The teachers’ union won but black inner-city children lost.
This is the story:
In separate conventions over recent weeks, the NAACP, the nation’s oldest black civil rights organization, and the Movement for Black Lives, a network of Black Lives Matter organizers, passed resolutions criticizing charter schools and calling for a moratorium on their growth. Charters were faulted by the groups for supposedly draining money from traditional public schools and allegedly fueling segregation. The NAACP measure, which still must be ratified by the board before becoming official, went so far as to liken the expansion of charters to “predatory lending practices” that put low-income communities at risk.
This is insane, and confirms my thinking that the NAACP is out of touch with the reality that many African Americans live, as the Wall Street Journal reported:
Some 28% of charter-school students are black, which is almost double the figure for traditional public schools. A report last year from Stanford’s Center for Research on Education Outcomes found that across 41 urban areas black students in charters gained on average 36 extra days in math learning a year and 26 in reading while Hispanic students gained 22 in math and six in reading. Black students in poverty notched 59 more days in math. This is the definition of “advancement.”
The NAACP didn’t bother to ask black parents what they think: a 2013 poll of black voters in four southern states by the Black Alliance for Educational Options found that at least 85% agreed that “government should provide parents with as many choices as possible.” No less than half in every state supported charter schools. Another sign of support is the hundreds of thousands of black students nationwide who sign up for lotteries for a seat at a charter.
So what’s going on? Why would the nation’s oldest civil rights group deny African American children a real opportunity to succeed?
My guess is that most of these NAACP leaders send their kids to private schools anyway. In other words, what do they care?
More importantly, the Democrat party is owned by the public-sector unions. It’s good for the party on election day but it does not do minority parents any good when they try to educate their kids.

Trump wasn’t a racist when he contributed to Democrats

hillary-clinton-vs-donald-trump-cartoon-390x220
During the primary reason, Mr. Trump was often attacked by the others on the stage for having contributed to Democrats over the years.  We remember Senator Cruz for this:
Donald Trump has consistently financed the campaigns of some of the most liberal politicians in the country[.] … California is perhaps one of the more egregious examples. From supporting high taxes and heavy regulation to amnesty and sanctuary cities, the top three officials in California have been a disaster for the state. A number of qualified Republican candidates ran to fix California’s problems, but Trump decided to back liberal Democrats against them.
I am not trying to fight the primary all over again.  I am simply demonstrating the hypocrisy of those Democrats who have suddenly discovered that Mr. Trump is a racist.
The Clinton Foundation received at least $105,000 from Trump – money not returned!
Trump may have funded Planned Parenthood, too, although we won’t know for sure until tax returns are released.
And he gave to other Democrats, as Rolling Stone wrote last spring:
An examination of Trump’s donations since 1998 reveals that the bulk of Trump’s political largesse has gone to politicians in places where he does business — like Florida, where he long supported disgraced politico Mark Foley; Nevada, where he’s given $9,400 to Democratic Sen. Harry Reid over the years; and of course New York, where notables like Chuck Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand and Anthony Weiner have all received Trump dough.
Again, I understand Trump’s logic here.  He was donating to people in places where he did business.  Nothing shocking about that.
My problem is that none of these Democrats has returned the money, especially now that the Clinton campaign is targeting Trump for racism, sexism, and whatever other “ism” is out there.
Someone, especially Mrs. Clinton or President Obama, should call on Democrats to return and disassociate themselves from any Trump money.
As I said, no one called him a racist when he contributed to Democrats.  It proves once again that the word “racist” these days has nothing to do with race.
Calling someone a racist in our political landscape means two things:
1) He is a GOP candidate.
2) And more importantly, the Democrat using the word “racist” does not want to talk about serious issues, such as black unemployment (8.4%), Democrat leaders sending their kids to private schools or the state of the very weak U.S. economy (GDP 1.1%).
Memo to Democrats: return Trump’s money, or we will continue to call hypocrisy!

Clinton’s new strategy: I may be a crook, but he is a racist

What exactly made the Clinton campaign go “race card” on Trump?
It seems a bit early for such a card. After all, isn’t she supposed to be leading by 10 points and headed for a landslide?
Do you recall Reagan ’84, Nixon ’72, or even Clinton ’96 sounding so desperate or attacking their opponents like this? They usually said little or had their helpers engage in attacks.
So what’s going on? Let me give you a couple of theories:
1) The Clinton campaign must have internal polling that it is a lot closer than the national polls suggest, or at least some information that her lead is melting because of all the bad news. They may also (and that’s speculation on my part) have polling that shows that there is zero excitement in the African American communities for her campaign. In other words, she will get 90% but the turnout may be very low! I remember analyzing the 2016 Texas primary on Telemundo Dallas last spring and we spent much of the night talking about the lousy Hispanic turnout. Excitement and Hillary Clinton do not go together!
2) The Clinton campaign may fear some bad news coming. Julian Assange told the media that bad stuff is coming. He may be bluffing or engaging in self-promotion. However, the recent AP story suggests that Assange may put the bow on this scandal. My guess is that some emails may confirm that the State Department and the Clinton Foundation were just a bit too close for comfort. At some point, even the friendly media will call on her to answer some questions!
It’s hard to believe that the Clintons would have a private server, delete emails and hide everything because they are stupid, asCharles Krauthammer wrote.   There is something that this couple is hiding. Why so much secrecy about emails between a mother and a daughter about to get married?
So put me down as someone who believes that there are big news coming. We may be about to have the mother of all October surprises.
Again, why play the race card now? I think that the new strategy will be to work on energizing the Obama coalition by saying this: I may be crooked but he is a racist!
What else do you when you are crooked? I guess that you scare your base that a racist is worse than a woman who can’t tell the truth or puts our national security at risk.

Why didn’t El Chapo create a foundation?

The mob has been in my mind lately.
First, my friend Bruce Woodhull just wrote another fiction book about a crime family. It will keep you very awake as you sit by the swimming pool this summer.
Second, I had a chance to catch a bit of Godfather II. It was that scene when Michael Corleone got a taste of “pay to play” with the U.S. Senator from Nevada.
It’s a great scene, especially now that I am reading the AP story about donors and meetings with Secretary of State Clinton.
According to the story, Secretary Clinton, the wife of the former president traveling all over the world collecting donations, spent a lot of her time talking to people who donated money to the Clinton Foundation.
Maybe this is why the Middle East is in flames, Chinese is taking over the South China sea, Russia is flying out of Iran, and the whole world is a mess.
In other words, our Secretary of State spent most her time talking to donors rather than overseeing the world.
So much for the one about being a very experienced candidate.  Experienced in what? Experienced in granting access to people from countries that throw homosexuals from the roof or deny women the right to drive a car?
Third, I read that El Chapo wants to go back to the prison that he escaped from. He finds his current cell very dirty. Sorry, but you can’t make up this stuff.
Frankly, El Chapo has to be kicking himself every day that he didn’t create a Foundation to get around all of those laws.
El Chapo’s Sinaloa cartel has been operating creatively around the law for years:
A group working for the Sinaloa cartel, that Portafolio called one of the largest bands of contraband smugglers in the world, “began to realize that if they brought merchandise from one of those countries to which the [tariff waiver] applied [they] could circumvent the” import tariff, Portafolio reported.
“One of the methods they employed was the triangulation of merchandise,” the report continued. “They imported products made in countries with which there was not [free-trade agreement] and they made them pass as if they were made in” a country that did have an agreement.
This method allowed the group, acting on behalf of the Sinaloa cartel, to buy legitimate goods with dirty cash and then resell those goods to turn what appeared to be a legal profit — all while avoiding Colombia’s tariffs on imports.
Eventually, as the article goes on to report, the U.S. federal authorities caught on to the scheme and properties were seized.
El Chapo’s gang could have avoided the whole thing with the creation of a foundation.  They could have put some pretty face up front and collected cash for the purpose of sending glasses for the poor children of Oaxaca and other poor areas in Mexico.
The foundation could have received billions in the name of charity and made El Chapo and his gang really rich without having to get around free trade agreements or laws.
it’s too late for El Chapo. Don’t be surprised if one of those smart MBA types working for a cartel tells his boss that The Clinton Foundation is the model for future business.
After all, who is going to criticize a foundation that distributes glasses for the poor children of Mexico?
P.S. You can listen to my show (Canto Talk) and follow me on Twitter.

Guess who is coming to dinner with Raul Castro?

shamsara20120722104619043

As the world turns, we are watching some rather amazing things in year 8 of “hope and change”:
First, kids are killed in Aleppo and those lives don’t seem to matter to anyone, especially anyone at the Obama White House;
Two, Russian planes are taking off from Iranian bases;
Third, Cuban dissidents are in jail rather than doing the wave at a baseball game; and,
Fourth, Iran’s foreign minister Javad Zarif is starting off his tour of Latin America with a stop in Havana. (By the way, Raul Castro will greet this visitor at the airport. Unlike President Obama, who was greeted by a low-level Cuban official, the Iranian visitor will get to shake hands with Raul.)
Is this how we were supposed to be respected around the world? Or is this the smart foreign policy that we were promised?
Let’s take a look
Iran’s foreign minister kicked off a Latin American tour Sunday in Havana, saying the Iran nuclear deal has “removed obstacles” for closer ties between his country and the region.
Foreign Minister Javad Zarif will visit Cuba, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia and Venezuela, reported the Tasnim News Agency.
Zarif said he plans to sign oil, energy and maritime transport agreements during his tour.
But the visit is raising concerns with a key Republican lawmaker.
“The timing of Zarif’s trip is significant as Iran could use many of these rogue regimes to circumvent remaining sanctions, undermine U.S. interests, and expand the drug trafficking network that helps finance its illicit activities,” said Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) in a statement.
“Tehran’s classic playbook is to use cultural centers, new embassies or consulates, or cooperative agreements on various areas to act as façades aimed at expanding Iran’s radical extremist network.”
Save for Chile, the countries Zarif is visiting align with the region’s ideological left and tend to have difficult relations with the United States.
So the Iran nuclear deal has removed obstacles for Iran to develop relations with anti-U.S. regimes in Latin America? Nobody told me that that was one of the objectives of the deal. I always understood that it was to keep Iran from developing a nuclear weapon rather turn it into an international power using its new found wealth to cut deal with cash starved regimes in Cuba and Venezuela.
Don’t you love this new smart foreign policy? I can’t wait to see Javad do the wave with Raul in Cuba! It will be fun to watch Raul in Cuba and Madero in Venezuela explain baseball to their new friend!

It’s up to us to say goodbye to the Clintons

Back in the late 1990s, a lot of my fellow Americans reminded me of cynical Latin Americans. In other words, all politicians are corrupt but okay as long as the economy is doing well. Believe it or not, I heard that from Venezuelans profiting off Chavez’ crony capitalism under $150 a barrel oil prices. We heard similar things from people in Brazil who accepted political corruption as the price for a strong economy. They are not saying that now.
Did that explain President Clinton’s approval ratings despite incredibly reckless behavior in the Oval Office and before a federal judge?
The Clintons are back, and maybe headed for another round at the Oval Office. And once again there is a scandal surrounding them. The latest one is about the Clinton Foundation and access to The Secretary of State, according to the Washington Post:
A sports executive who was a major donor to the Clinton Foundation and whose firm paid Bill Clinton millions of dollars in consulting fees wanted help getting a visa for a British soccer player with a criminal past.
The crown prince of Bahrain, whose government gave more than $50,000 to the Clintons’ charity and who participated in its glitzy annual conference, wanted a last-minute meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
U2 rocker and philanthropist Bono, also a regular at foundation events, wanted high-level help broadcasting a live link to the International Space Station during concerts.
In each case, according to emails released Monday from Hillary Clinton’s time as secretary of state, the requests were directed to Clinton’s deputy chief of staff and confidante, Huma Abedin, who engaged with other top aides and sometimes Clinton herself about how to respond.
Some will say that this is politics or politicians taking calls from those who donate.
I disagree.
First, we are talking about foreign donations to a foundation, not domestic contributions to a Senate race. It’s one thing for a U.S. senator to visit with a major contributor and listen to his plea. It’s quite another thing for a foreigner to donate to a foundation and then expect a seat at the Clinton table. The first is politics and I get it. The second is corruption, sets a terrible precedent and it stinks!
Donations to the Clinton Foundation were dressed up as acts of charity but in fact were payments to reserve a seat in an upcoming Clinton administration. The Clinton apologists will argue that the money brought glasses to little children in the Third World. Maybe it did but no leader of a corrupt country gave money to The Clinton Foundation trying to do that.
As William Gurn said, it’s hard to prove a quid pro quo, specially with clever people like the Clintons. At the same time, it is hard to believe that President Clinton ran all over the world collecting money and somehow the cases just accidentally headed to a State Department run by his wife.
Last month, Director Comey chose not to indict Mrs. Clinton and put this issue on our lap. It is now up to us the voters. We will decide whether this is just politics as usual or corruption of the worst kind.
I hope that the voters for once and for all tell the Clintons that we are sick and tired of their ways. We deserve better than people who don’t think that the rules apply to them.

2016: Like 1964 or 1980?

On the first Wednesday of November, we will say President Elect Clinton or President Elect Trump. I hope that it’s Mr. Trump for the sake of the U.S. Supreme Court. However, let’s admit that he has to finish strong for that to happen.
Elections are always very different but sometimes they remind you of the ones that came before. 2016 is starting to look a lot like 1964 and 1980.
Let’s recall 1964:
In 1964, President Johnson was not necessarily popular but he was riding the tragedy of President Kennedy’s death and the country was peaceful and relatively prosperous.   However, President Johnson did not sit on his lead and blew Senator Goldwater with a very effective campaign of scaring voters:
President Lyndon B. Johnson had come to office less than a year earlier following the assassination of his predecessor, John F. Kennedy, and Johnson had successfully associated himself with Kennedy’s popularity. Johnson also successfully painted his opponent, Republican Senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona, as a right-wing legislator who wanted to abolish the social welfare programs created in the 1930s (such as Social Security). LBJ advocated more such programs, and after 1965, instituted three: Medicare, Medicaid, and the War on Poverty.
With these factors working for him, Johnson easily won the Presidency, carrying 44 of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. As of 2009, Johnson’s 22.6 percentage point-margin of victory in the popular vote is the fifth-largest such margin in Presidential election history (after the margins of the 1920 election, 1924 election, 1936 election, and 1972 election). Johnson won 61.1% of the national popular vote, which remains the highest popular-vote percentage won by a U.S.presidential candidate since 1820.
The election is also remembered due to Goldwater’s status as a pioneer in the modern conservative movement.
Take note of the last point about pioneering the modern conservative movement. The GOP won 7 of the next 10 presidential elections after this humiliating defeat.
In 1980, President Carter was highly unpopular. He fought off a very serious challenge from Senator Kennedy.
I remember that election cycle quite and can’t recall meeting anyone who was crazy about reelecting President Carter. Even Democrats were not privately sold on reelection.
At the same time, Governor Reagan couldn’t break through and everything came down to the last week of the election and a very famous debate:
Reagan, aided by the Iran hostage crisis and a worsening economy at home, won the election in a landslide. Carter, after defeating Ted Kennedy for the Democratic nomination, attacked Reagan as a dangerous right-wing radical. For his part, Reagan, the former Governor of California, repeatedly ridiculed Carter, and won a decisive victory; in the simultaneous Congressional elections, Republicans won control of the United States Senate for the first time in 28 years. This election marked the beginning of what is popularly called the “Reagan Revolution.”
As I said, I was there in 1980 making phone calls from a Reagan phone bank. I recall the Friday night before the election and it was a dead heat. However, something happened that weekend and the dead heat turned into a 10-point victory for Mr Reagan. At the last minute, millions decided that four more years of Carter was not good for the country!
So what about 2016?
The Clinton campaign has indeed tried to paint Trump as reckless and unfit for the presidency or exactly what President Johnson did in 1964. They have not run an ad with a nuclear bomb going off behind a cute little girl yet, but the election is not over.
To be fair, Trump continues to give the other side lots to talk about, such as the latest controversy over immigration. In the interest of full disclosure, I always thought that massive deportation was unworkable even if it sounded good to many primary voters.
Once again, Trump is often talking about everything but Mrs. Clinton or the Obama record.
Like Mr Reagan in 1980, Mr Trump has the economy and a horrible foreign policy going for him. And Clinton is not very popular at all. He has debates ahead where he can destroy her record and other weaknesses.
What will it be? I can’t say today, although I continue to believe that the fundamentals are with Trump.
